Mobile Phone Documentary
When creating our documentary we followed the conventions of how to conduct a good quality and successful documentary. The use of A-Roll and B-Roll footage was unbalanced as we used a lot more A-Roll footage which was the interview questions and answers. The B-roll footage was used to split up the interviews with relevant imagery that made the documentary a lot better and interesting. The B-roll in my opinion brings all of the footage together and makes it more enjoyable and interesting to watch.
When filming the interviews we had to make sure it was set up accurately and so that it looked good, by framing the picture and using the rule of thirds we put the person being interviewed to one side of the camera, as there was a few different interviews in our documentary we swapped sides to make it look different and better than just keeping to the same side. We recorded our documentary around college and we used a blue screen background on a few of our interviews, this meant that when we came to editing our footage together we were able to remove the blue screen and replace it with a relevant image using Mise En Scene.
When editing the footage we had to remove the questions being asked so that we just had the answers to the questions, this was quite time consuming as we wanted to get the recording at the right times without cutting out parts we needed. We didnt really use Archive footage in our documentary as it was made up of A-Roll and B-roll footage, I think that if we used archive footage it would have improved the documentary as it would have been made up by a range of different footage and techniques.
The music behind our footage was by Beyonce - Video Phone. We thought that it was a relevant song to the documentary as it was of young people and it is quite an up beat song. The sound in the documentary was the answers to the questions about mobile phones.
